THE BEST (FREE) PIANO PLUG-INS OUT THERE
It’s world piano day! What better way to celebrate then highlighting some of the best free piano plug-ins to try. Let’s get right in to it!
LABS - Soft Piano
Labs is one of our go-to plug-ins if it comes to lightweight, easy to use sounds. These piano patches don’t take up a huge amount of space on your production computer, and they sound great. Our favourite is the soft piano, even though there are some more options to try - all for free.
The editing possibilities on these are limited, but that doesn’t spoil any of the fun!
SOUNDMAGIC PIANO ONE
This little freebie is easy to use, more editable and definitely worth checking out. They work great in classic pop music, ballads and such. The highly editable sounds come with a downside, if you edit too much the piano might sound a little unnatural. Just don’t overdo it and you’ll be settled with it! Check out the download here.
99SOUNDS UPRIGHT PIANO
This is a simple, yet useful piano. The interesting, no-nonse approach to the interface makes it super easy to wrap your head around. There are a few modulation effects that make it cool to work with from a more lo-fi perspective. Check out the download here.
Ivy Audio Piano in 162
If you are looking for a little more options in terms of mic positions this one is super interesting. You can blend between a close mic and a more ambient mic position to dial in your desired sound. Definitely worth checking out if you ask us! Great sounding interface. You do need Kontakt or an SFZ player to run this, you can also download these for free.
Arcade by output
Not entirely free, but worth mentioning is Arcade by Output. They offer a totally new approach to sampling traditional and non-traditional sounds. And naturally, also pianos. The most creative piano bank in this post is their Piano Chops library. Check it out here. (You can try Arcade for 30 days without charge.)
